Preparing for migration: Safeguarding models and actions, closing campaigns

The first step is to make a backup of the templates and actions by launching GTAnswer, connecting to each GTServer instance and saving the templates and actions with the File->Export command.

When installing the 2022 version over a previous version (from 3.0 to 3.7), all campaigns from existing instances will be deleted.

It is mandatory to consult the campaign manager to ensure that campaigns are closed and have been integrated.

 Updating GTServer

GTServer services that are running must first be stopped.

Launch the SetupGTServer.exe executable which will update the GTServer module installed on the workstation.

Once the installation is complete, launch GTAdmin.

For each instance, check that the service is stopped, then in the “Base GT” tab, click on the “Test” button.

A message appears specifying that the database must be updated.

Click on the new “Update” button.

If the original version is prior to 3.7, you will have to specify the license key of the server, if this has not already been done, and assign the instances declared in GTAdmin to the instance numbers of the license key.

The instance service can now be started.

GTServer

SetupGTServer.exe updates GTServer.exe and associated modules that are used for all instances running on the server.

Questionnaires sent with this version of GTServer will have to be opened by correspondents with an Answer whose version is the same as GTServer.  The correspondents will still be able to open the old 3.7 questionnaires and answer them.

All GTAnswer pointing to the updated instances must also be updated using the same version as GTServer.

GTAnswer

When GTAnswer 2022 is installed and associated with the .qstx files, an AnswerLegacy.exe executable (Answer version 3.7) is installed at the same time, this 3.7 executable is associated with the old .qst files.

Thus, the installation of GTAnswer 2022 allows correspondents to open the old 3.7 .qst questionnaires in exactly the same way as with 3.7 (since it is the same Answer executable version 3.7 that opens them) and to open the new .qstx 2019 questionnaires.
